Better Understanding Your Child

At times, it can be hard to make sense of what is going on for your child or young person, and a formal assessment can offer clarity and direction.

KidPsych provides a range of evidence-informed assessments to help children and young people better understand themselves and to support the adults around them to help them grow and thrive.

Our experienced team of psychologists, alongside our in-house psychiatrist, bring decades of experience and take a thoughtful, comprehensive approach to every assessment.

The Steps

1 Planning
2 Gathering
3 Making Sense

Understanding Your Child and Planning the Assessment

The first step is to understand your child’s current experiences and what has led you to seek support. We gather background information about their development and work with you to decide what kind of assessment will be most helpful.

  • A Navigator appointment (parent or caregiver only), where we explore your child’s current context and developmental history.
  • A discussion about the assessment process and what you are hoping to gain from it.
  • A tailored assessment plan and estimated cost if an assessment is recommended.
  • If an assessment is not recommended at this stage, we will suggest appropriate next steps.

Gathering Information

Once the assessment is underway, we gather information from a range of sources to build a well-rounded understanding of your child.

  • A school observation and/or meeting with your child’s teacher.
  • Completion of questionnaires and standardised assessment tools.
  • A child interview with one or two members of our psychology team.
  • A review of school reports and any previous assessments, where available.

Making Sense of the Information and Next Steps

In the final step, we bring all of the information together and share this with you, along with clear guidance about how best to support your child moving forward.

  • Detailed Written Report
  • Actionable Recommendations
  • Feedback Meeting
